So in about a week, it's time to run a 5K. It's the same 5K I ran last year and it's only second one...
Last year I was all about smoothies. This year I am much lazier about my eating, and instead of dragging out the blender in the morning I just cram celery and peanut butter and raisins in my mouth on the way to work. I know it's not very French, but it is doing right by me so far.
In the spirit of being French, however, I am imbibing a bit of wine as I write this. Har!
My colleague reminded me today that I forgot to do TILT this week, so here it is, a day late...

♥ BOOZE
♥ MYSELF
♥ HOUSE, M.D.
♥ MERMAIDS
ok that's it.
Oh right I almost forgot I just ordered 430 sparkly gems from China. Do you know how many gems you can get? My order is actually two separate selections of 400 and 30, the smallest quantity of each. They sold them in quantities up to 5000, it was mental.
...But I'm not going to lie, maybe I should have gone for the 1000 resin rhinestones, because resin ones have more facets and are sparklier, and seriously, it's not like I can't find a use for several hundred rhinestones.
...Ok I ordered 100 more rhinestones. They are star shaped. So pretty!
So heyyyy, here's what I'm reading these days
Enthusiasm comes when I try and explain the plot of this book in person. There are hand gestures. And shouting.

So Lisa See wrote Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, which is about girls who write on this fan and do stuff like shun each other for years because of misunderstandings, and it's in ancient China. Peony In Love is about what you'd expect it to be, if you're a woman, and have read books about women in ancient China. Except, spoiler, it has GHOSTS and pretty much if your family doesn't take care of you after death, you are a screwed ghost.
I shouldn't be too flip about this, because they are good books and I learned a lot of stuff about ancient China and women's roles that I didn't know. Maybe I'm just getting tired of how callous everyone is to each other, and how all those things we call "love" or "relationships" or "family" are just social constructs set up to preserve honor and bloodlines and wealth, and everyone is just totally faking it and somehow your sense of duty is supposed to buoy you along until you die.
Or maybe I just fell in love with Sei Shonagon's sassy-britches source material, and find China to be just really really depressing. I wonder if there are some Chinese pillow-book type things out there?
